the order of the phoenix
The Order of the Phoenix is an organisation founded by Albus Dumbledore around 1970 to counteract the rising threat of Lord Voldemort and his supporters. It is made up of a mixture of people, both young and old, from various backgrounds and upbringings, working together both as a group and in splintered factions to help protect the wizarding world. The lack of red tape, and existence of old allegiances to Dumbledore, and the cause itself has attracted many Ministry workers who fight on both fronts, though the threat of having their membership revealed to their superiors is a risk. They focus on both open warfare and back-room tactics, getting the right information to the Ministry and the public as well as trying to keep their identities as secret as possible.

MEMBERS;
Sirius Black • Edgar Bones • Caradoc Dearborn • Elphias Doge • Dedalus Diggle • Aberforth Dumbledore • Benjy Fenwick • Mundungus Fletcher • Hestia Jones • Alice Longbottom • Frank Longbottom • Remus Lupin • Marlene McKinnon • Dorcas Meadowes • Alastor Moody • Peter Pettigrew • Sturgis Podmore • James Potter • Lily Potter • Fabian Prewett • Gideon Prewett • Severus Snape • Andromeda Tonks • Theodore Tonks • Emmeline Vance

HIERARCHY;
Though there is no defined hierarchy, generally one of the older members tends to have the approval stamp on plans that involve risking life and limb as well as helping the younger members get their skills up to speed as best they can. Everyone is there because they want to help and have something to contribute so while things often get heated, there is a deep measure of respect for each person willing to do their bit to stop darkness falling.

COMMUNICATIONS;
The majority of people within the Order are aware of each other's identities. To stop undesirable people from reading what they write to one another, the Order uses two main methods of communication:

  • Patronus - often sent in emergencies or as a call to arms, the patronus is sent with a verbal message from the caster.
  • Order ward - when using the journals, people within the Order can use a ward to the Order so only members can see what they’ve written. It is linked through magic and password protection, so even if someone else were to pick up the journal, they still could not read those wards without it.

    MEDIA;
    To help get their message of tolerance to a wider wizarding Britain and Ireland, the Order often use various forms of media to get messages across in an anonymous fashion. This ranges from an underground radio show to anti-Death Eater letters to the Prophet. The radio is password protected and it is up to the Order to get the password to the right people.

    IDENTITIES;
    Though they don’t wear masks so as to distinguish themselves from the Death Eaters if civilians or Ministry are there, the Order does try to keep their identities as private as possible. When doing anything that could confirm them as a member of the vigilante organisation, they tend to use a code name or an alias.

    PASSWORD & WARD PROTECTION;
    For things of a sensitive nature, it’s recommended it be either passworded or warded. Make sure to include the Order in anything that could be important to the organisation as a whole. It will also help keep people from having their identities made or others finding out where the HQ is this week. Dead drops also need to be protected, in case they are picked up by the wrong person.

    OBJECTIVES
    Though the actions of the Order vary from day to day, there are long term goals and various projects that go on inside it. This varied list means that everyone can feel as if they’re contributing. A rudimentary list is as follows:
    Anti-Voldemort Propaganda
    (and the occasional destruction of Pro-Voldemort Propaganda)

  • Supporting a free, inclusive wizarding world.
  • Broadcasting of the core ideals of freedom and peace to keep them in the forefront of people's minds.
  • Focus on bringing to light what is just prejudice and rumour as opposed to fact.
  • Promoting blood equality.
  • Providing rational reasons, laws and quotes to support the cause.

    Reconnaissance
    (or: how to look for suspected Death Eaters and not die horribly)

  • Surveilling hot spots to see who meets.
  • Recording unexpected events or movements from people.
  • Check the movements of the suspected/confirmed.
  • Looking at known associates of the already suspected.
  • Checking on internal and external security.
  • See if you can play Spot the Voldemort.

    Research & Development
    (also known as “can we invent something that does this?” and “I hope someone has made pepper-up potion this week!”)

  • Background checks on anyone the Order is in contact with.
  • Magical research.
  • Development of potions for offensive/ healing purposes.

    Strategy & Planning
    (or: how, when, where and what are we doing with this information)

  • Identifying Death Eater attacks (from rumour, from the papers, from radio and passing the information on).
  • Identifying workable plans from the insane ideas.
  • Internal problems within the Order itself.
  • Analysis & surveillance.

    Education & Information
    (or: what does this curse do and how long is it going to be like that?)

  • Letting people know the truth via anti-Voldemort propaganda.
  • Self-defense classes (both physical and wand work).
  • Treating wounds, hexes and curses.
  • Wards & how vital it is for your home to be protected.
  • Identifying potions and tricky spells.
  • Defense against Dark Creatures.
  • How to raise the alarm (both for the Order & Ministry).
  • Training junior members (Order members only).
